Air Fryer Pepperoni Pizza Rolls

healthy air fried pepperoni pizza rolls

Pepperoni pizza rolls are like cinnamon rolls, with pepperoni and cheese filling. It’s a good side dish for a light supper! Obviously, they were a hit with my pizza-loving children.

No-knead pizza dough takes about 5 minutes to make, but it needs a few hours to ferment and develop the gluten, so you’ll want to plan ahead for this. Mix up the dough in the morning, and you’ll have pizza dough by dinnertime! Premade frozen pizza dough from the supermarket also works great for this recipe!

I wouldn’t say air fryers are a must-have kitchen tool, but they’re certainly fun to play with! This is the exact air fryer I have, and it’s a lot of fun.

I’m not sure these air fryer pepperoni pizza rolls would do well in the oven, as I worry the cheese might leak out during baking? Haven’t tested it in the oven, but if you want to try it, let me know how it turned out!

Air Fryer Pepperoni Pizza Rolls

Prep Time10 minutes mins
Bread rising time8 hours hrs
Servings: 4
Calories: 216kcal

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup lukewarm water
  • ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast

Filing

  • ½ cup low sodium canned tomato sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon dried basil
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 ounces shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 2 ounces turkey pepperoni (chopped)
  • 1 ounce grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Make the dough:

  • The dough takes time to develop. Make the dough in the morning, and it'll be ready by dinnertime. Even if you start around lunchtime, your pizza rolls should be fine.
  • Whisk together the flour and salt.
  • Fill a ½ cup measuring cup with lukewarm water. The water should feel neither hot nor cold to the touch. Add the ¼ teaspoon of yeast to the water and allow it to sit and dissolve for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the water/yeast mixture to the flour and stir it around until a dough comes together. Add a little extra water, 1 tablespoon at a time until the flour is fully incorporated (add more flour if the dough is too loose.) You're looking for a dough that's about the same consistency as your earlobe.
  • Cover the bowl of dough with plastic wrap and set it out at room temperature until dinnertime.

Arrange the pizza rolls

  • Preheat the air fryer to 360 °F
  • Stir together the tomato sauce, garlic powder, basil and oregano.
  • Use a rolling pin to roll the dough into a large rectangle on a well-floured surface. Try to roll the dough fairly thin, about ¼" thick.
  • Spread the tomato sauce mixture all over the dough rectangle.
  • Sprinkle with the cheese and pepperoni.
  • Roll the dough up lengthwise, as if you were rolling up cinnamon rolls.
  • Cut the roll crosswise into 4 equal pieces.
  • Arrange the 4 pizza rolls in the basket of the air fryer.
  • Cook at 360 °F for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Hello, world!

I’ve always liked cooking, but we used to eat crap a lot — like buttery mashed potatoes, creamy sauces and rich desserts. Then, my husband had a heart attack at age 38, and it was a terrifying wake-up call! Not wanting to leave our children fatherless, we knew we had to make a major change. Following his heart attack, we needed to cut sodium, sugar, saturated fats (you know, most of our favorite foods!)
