On weekends, I make fancy breakfasts. This is a pretty basic porridge with raisins and cut-up apples. I used Bobs Red Mill 7-Grain cereal instead of my usual go-to oatmeal, just for something different. I’ve had that 7-Grain cereal sitting around in my pantry for a long time and wanted to do something interesting with it.

Servings: 1
Calories: 629kcal
Ingredients
- ½ cup dry cereal (I used Bobs Red Mill 7-Grain Cereal)
- 1 chopped apple (I used a gala apple)
- 2 tablespoon raisins
- 1 cup skim milk
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 pinch ground nutmeg
- 1 pinch ground cloves
- ½ tablespoon brown sugar or maple syrup
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, stir together the dry cereal, apples, raisins, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and skim milk. Put the lid on and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- As soon as the pot boils, turn down to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes until the cereal, apples and raisins are soft and most of the milk has been absorbed.
- At the end of cooking, stir in the sugar, heavy cream and vanilla extract.
