A lightened-up steak & gravy dinner. My family loves those “meat and potatoes” meal. This was super-simple to make; took about 30 minutes total.
I served this braised steak and gravy with a side of “bubble and squeak” -inspired mashed potatoes.
Braised Steak & Gravy
Servings: 4

- 16 ounces boneless sirloin steak (cut into 1-inch cubes)
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 cup pearl onions (thawed)
- 1 cup low sodium beef broth
- ⅓ cup red wine
- 2 tablespoon cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tbsop chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Lightly spray a skillet with nonstick spray.
- Cook the beef over medium-high heat for 8 to 10 minutes, or until well-browned.
- Stir in the minced garlic, and cook for 1 minute.
- Pour the beef broth and red wine into a large measuring cup. Whisk in the cornstarch.
- Pour the broth-wine-cornstarch mixture into the skillet. Scrape up any browned bits that have accumulated at the bottom of the pan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- When the mixture boils, add the thawed pearl onions, and turn the heat down to medium-low. Cover the skillet with a lid and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or so.
- Stir in the black pepper and chopped parsley.
